April 29, 1939 – January 3, 2025
It is with sorrow that the family of Benjamin C. Travassos announce his peaceful passing at home on January 3, 2025, in his 85th year.
Benjamin was the beloved husband of the late Carmina Travassos for 63 years and a loving father to Fatima Labinowicz, Carmina Oliveira (Joe) and Benjamin F. Travassos. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Tara Nagentheren (Shandeep), Erika Saraiva (Jon), Emily Osmow (Ben), and Abigail Oliveira.
Born in Rabo de Peixe, Açores, Portugal on April 29, 1939, Benjamin emigrated to Canada with his wife and three children on December 8, 1973, seeking a better life for his family. Together, they worked hard and built a beautiful life filled with love, resilience, and many cherished memories. Benjamin was a man of deep faith and pillar of the Portuguese community.
From a young age, Benjamin was deeply passionate about his love for the Filarmonica (brass) band. Starting his musical journey as a teenager in Portugal with the Banda Filarmonica Lira Do Norte, Villa de Rabo de Peixe, he continued to play and serve with dedication throughout his life in Canada. He proudly played in the Banda Lira de Fátima Toronto and Banda Lira Portuguesa de Brampton, and served as a committee member in the Banda do Segrado Coração de Jesus Toronto. His commitment to the band was a testament to his love for music and his sense of community.
Benjamin was a devoted member of the Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres Committee of St Mary’s church in Toronto for over 30 years. His tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to this beloved organization were a reflection of his strong faith and his desire to give back to the community.
