Obituary

Gordon George McClure was born March 14, 1929 and died on July 26, 2013 in Toronto. He is survived by Anne Mitchell, his best friend, soulmate and wife of over thirty years; his children: Susan (Ian), Peter (Chris), Andrew (Alex), Mary (Mike), Martha (Vince) and Ann (Hugh); his many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother Bruce (Pauline) and his sister Lois; and his former wife Betty Page. Gordon cared deeply about peace and social justice and was an active member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). His pioneering work in special education included being the founding principal at M. F. McHugh School in Ottawa, and his participation in the Council for Exceptional Children and the Ontario Council for Children with Behavioural Disorders. After his retirement from the Ottawa Board of Education, he furthered his formal education by obtaining his PhD in Psychology at Carleton University. Thanks to the staff at St. Christopher's House and Castleview-Wychwood Towers, and his many friends and family for their care and support. A memorial meeting will be held on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends’ House, 60 Lowther Avenue, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Friends’ Service Committee, 60 Lowther Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5R 1C7. Funeral arrangements entrusted to The Cardinal Funeral Homes.
