Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce that Hryhorij Zurawel passed away at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Care Center, Etobicoke on February 17, 2022.

He was the devoted father of Peter and his wife Olga and Anastasia and her husband Gerald Larson.  Predeceased by his loving wife Maria, of sixty-three years and his son Nicholas.  Grandfather to Kathryn (David), Laura (Adrian), John (Cathy), Caroline (Chad), Gregory, Nina and Oksana.  Great grandfather to Owen, Maxwell, William, Taelyn and Evelyna.

Hryhorij will always be remembered for his kindness to all he knew.  He was always happy to lend a helping hand to everyone.  After immigrating to Canada, Hryhorij and Maria built their dream home in Caledon East where they enjoyed life, growing vegetables and raising chickens and rabbits on their farm.   Family was Hryhorij’s highest priority in life and he spent his retirement years with them at family celebrations and special events.  He was so proud of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. (east of Keele) on Monday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Panakhyda at 5:00 p.m.  Funeral on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1630 Dupont St., followed by interment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville.

The family expresses special thanks to the 2nd floor staff for exceptional care during the past months.   In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Demetrius Care Center would be appreciated in memory of Hryhorij Zurawel.

I first met your father at UCCC last fall when visiting my mother. He was one of my mother's dining companions and was so kind to her, helping everyday when she had difficulty with her meals. He always had a positive thought to share and put a smile on everyone's face when he spoke. My mother called him a true Gentleman. I am proud to have met your Father. Vichnaya Pamyat.
