Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Luczkiw on August 19, 2024 at the age of 68. Michael was a beloved father, loving husband, and brother. He is survived by his 5 children, Wasyl (Solomiia), Stefan, Lida, Oksana, Andrij, and his twin sister Helga (Jaroslaw). Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Tatiana, and his parents, Stefan and Anna.

Michael was an amazing father with a caring heart, unbreakable spirit, and a good sense of humour. He cared greatly about his children and loved them deeply.  He believed in helping the community and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Michael was a high school teacher with the Toronto District School Board for 30 years. During retirement, he helped his children grow and develop their family business.

Michael was a long-time parishioner and member of the church choir at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, where he was married, and baptized his 5 children. Michael served in the Ukrainian Canadian community by being actively involved in the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada (UNF), serving as principal of UNF Ridna Shkola as well as many other initiatives. He also fostered volunteerism among his children through participation in church and in the local community.

After the unexpected passing of his wife, Tatiana, he was determined in raising his 5 children with undying love and never-ending happiness. He rose to the challenge, never faltered, never wavered, rather continued onward by example as he put his faith in God and built his house on God’s word. His example, and the fruits of his labour touched the lives of many.

He will truly be missed. We love him so much! Bічная пам'ять

For those wishing to do so, memorial donations can be made to the Canada Ukraine Surgical Aid Program             in Michael's honour.

It is with sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Michael Luczkiw whom we honor as an outstanding member of our Mississauga Valley community. While we never met Michael face to face we are so pleased to have been able to get to know his very kind son, Stefan, who also gives back admirably to his community of origin and that of the Mississauga Valleys as well. Stefan, like his dear father, continues a proud heritage of volunteer support to his Ukranian family in our small part of the Mississauga Valleys. May the strength of character & dignity of Mr. Michael Luczkiw continue to shine through his children. While we only learned of his passing after the funeral but we need you to know that we are honored by the continued presence of his family & friends in our multi-cultural community. Your strength of character mirrors that same strength of character we have come to know in so many of our Ukrainian neighbors in the Mississauga. Thank you for living & working & shining your light among us.

From the first time I met Mike at a MYHO event in 1980, I thought he was a truly charming, intelligent, and witty man. He was not only a pillar of the Ukrainian community, but someone with an inquisitive mind, a respected teacher, and a great husband and father. He will be deeply missed.
