Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of our dear cousin Brian “Opie” Opekan.

Brian was a country boy turned city. He never lost his love for Niagara-on-the-Lake, nor his thoughts of lifetime friends from his childhood in Vineland and Virgil.

The victim of a tragedy at a young age, Brian never let his own struggles stand in the way of his positivity, nor making others smile.

He loved to laugh – share a joke, or play a good trick. He was a trivia master, and liked to talk music and movies for hours. He was also a judo black belt, and many wrists are still stinging from a surprise move, formed from a handshake. His appreciation for the smaller things in life is something we’ll always carry with us.

Brian, we know you’re in a better place, and it brings us peace to know you’re with your mother Marion, sister Judy Ann and many others who love you.

We thank Sts. Peter and Paul Residence, where staff and residents embraced Brian like family. And a special thanks to Isabel, who went the extra mile.

Brian, you made this world a warmer and happier place. It was only a matter of time before you became an angel.

Our heartfelt condolences to all Opie's family & friends. We have wonderful memories of many phone calls talking about the good old days. He was a caring & dear friend, always concerned about others & never worrying about himself. Will miss his hearty laugh. Rest in peace Opie.
