Obituary

Valdemar Oliveira left us on Tuesday December 17, 2024. He died peacefully after praying with the incredible staff at St. George Care Community who loved and cared for him in such a special way, to them we will forever owe them a debt of gratitude. That is how his time on earth ended, now the story that led up to this moment was one in which he walked with God step by step. Born in the Azores, Portugal to Pedro and Zelia Oliveira he left from Portugal along with his siblings Osvaldo, Aida, Maria and Carlos to start their new life together in Toronto, Canada. From photos and stories, it is clear although life was not perfect, he always searched out joy and creativity and he found it. Life was challenging but he always managed to be calm and peaceful no matter what came. He was a survivor and with the love and support of family and friends he overcame many obstacles. He honestly has to be one of the most loving and faith-filled persons there ever was. He will be greatly missed by his parents, his siblings, their spouses, his nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly. He was a gentle soul who never complained despite all of his hardships and was generally interested in you and your story. In many ways he was an incredible teacher of important life lessons and those valuable lessons will live on in all those who were blessed to spend time with him.

The pain of loss is deep but the love we feel for you is greater. Your memories bring peace to our hearts even in sadness. You will be missed immensely but you will always be with us in spirit and in memory, your light will never stop shining among us, rest in peace.

I express my deepest sympathy in this time of great sorrow. The Bible gives the comforting hope that your loved one will come to life again on a peaceful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 5:28, 29 and Acts 24:15.

Prayers are the only way to get through this. He was one of the most incredible people I've ever met. He taught me so much! I thank God for Valdemar, I thank God for you the good people who helped to form him to be the amazing person he was. My condolences to all who are struggling with his loss. God bless the incredible good people at St. George Community who took such wonderful care of him. He always said that they were so beautiful and he is without a doubt correct. When I asked about the food, he always said WOW and he meant it. Maria I think may have been a little jealous and always joked about joining him for dinner. A thought on how to celebrate him, have a cheeseburger in memory of him! I would ask what was on his mind and he would say he is in God's presence. I saw him on Sunday and he was great, interesting, it was the first time that he left with the parting message to be strong. May his soul rest in peace...
