Obituary
Passed away peacefully in God’s care at the grand age of 100 at Southlake Hospital surrounded by family. Devoted husband of the late Anna. Survived by his family in Ukraine, Italy, and Canada as well as his friend Helen. After the war, Bill worked as a chef with an entirely Ukrainian crew at Château Laurier in Ottawa. He met prime ministers and world leaders. He went on to operate his own business, the Oak Motel. He was devoted to his faith and community, supporting Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, and Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv. Vasyl supported Ukraine to defend itself from the ungodly Russian invasion and offered prayers for Ukraine’s survival.
Lifelong member of Ukrainian National Federation of Canada. He was a patient vinificatore and wonderful gardener. Although a teetotaler, every Autumn he would make a new batch of wines and gift bottles to friends and neighbours. Each Spring he would gift seedlings of garden products to neighbours. He was generous beyond belief and helped family in Ukraine and Canada. He practiced kindness, generosity, charity and gentleness to others. A kind father to those who needed one. A funeral mass was held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, then laid to rest at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery in Oakville. Donations in memory of Vasyl may be made to Holy Eucharist Church, 515 Broadview Ave. or Canada Ukraine Foundation.
