Mrs. Agnes Tjernenkow

Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to our Beloved Mama and Baba Agnes Tjernenkow nee Michalenko. She passed away peacefully on October 9^th, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in her 97^th  year.

She was born on March 27, 1927, to Boris and Eugenia Michalenko, on a farm near Ogrodniki, province of Bialowieza, Poland.  She was the second of four children, survived by her brother Alex Michalenko (Lethbridge) and predeceased by Valentin Michalenko and Svetlana Odorski.

In 1948, she travelled with her family, via train from Austria to Italy and then to Canada on the N. S. Hellas eventually landing in Lethbridge Alberta. She lived there for 10 years, when she and her family moved to Toronto, Ontario. She has lived in the Toronto community for over 60 years and was an active member of the Sisterhood of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox church. 

Agnes leaves behind her children, Nadia Nowlan (Robert Nowlan), Vera Chaffe, Nina McLellan, predeceased Boris Kornijchuk (Ewa Kornijchuk), and her beloved grandchildren (Elizabeth, Sean, Victor, Jennifer, Erik and Kristen), great grandchildren (Matthew, Eileen, Madison, Mya, Zachary, Zoey, Fisher, Fynn and Isabella), great great grandchildren (Johnathan, Emily, Abigail, Miles, Sullivan and Tobias) and great great great grandchild (Raelynn). She was a kind Baba and dear friend to many.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the kindness and support of the Doctors, Nurses and support staff at St. Joseph’s Health centre.  You made our mother’s final days pleasant and comfortable.

Funeral Service to be held Tuesday, October 15^th, 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, 23 Henry Street, Toronto, Ontario M5T 1W9.  Interment to follow at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road · Toronto, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests that donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Health Centre St. Joseph’s Health Centre - Unity Health Toronto or the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church Holy Trinity.
