Obituary

It is with profound sorrow and loss that we announce the passing of Slawa Haruch, at the age of 96, at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre. Our beloved Mama passed away peacefully in the comfort of her children, who adored her.

Czeslawa was born in Zhydachiv Ukraine on March 17, 1928. During WWII she left Ukraine with her mother Maria and lived in a displaced persons camp in Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. It was there that she completed high school.

Slawa immigrated with her mother to Canada in 1949. They settled in Toronto, and shortly after she enrolled at the University of Toronto, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. While living in Toronto, she met the love of her life, Bohdan Haruch. In 1953 they wed, and were married for 58 beautiful years until his death in 2011. Together they had 5 children. She was a devoted wife and mother. Slawa was the foundation of the family.

Slawa is survived by her children Motria (Andry) Monczak, Marko, Zoya, Hanna (Rick). She was predeceased by her youngest daughter Ludmyla (2020). Slawa adored her grandchildren Luda (Frederic) Lussier and Lukash (Laryssa) Monczak. She was blessed to have 5 great grandchildren: Taras, Roman, and Maksym Lussier, Teodor and Adriyan Monczak.

In her last remaining year, Slawa lived at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, where she was cared for by incredibly kind and compassionate people. A very special thank you to all the second floor UCCC staff.

Mama will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to UCCC would be appreciated.
