Obituary
Elvira Amaral passed away peacefully on Sunday August 7th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Elvira will be sorely missed by her husband of 63 years, Manuel. She was a devoted mother to Anna (Manuel), Brenda, Frank, Dianne (Manuel), and Sandi. Elvira also loved and cherished her grandchildren Clark, Jacqueline, Ethan, Daniel, Christian, Samuel, and Elijah.
Elvira was born on May 19th, 1935 on the island of São Miguel, Azores. She was raised by two hardworking parents Guilherme Cabral Martins and Hortência Olivia Faria. Elvira was one of 9 children, Hortência, Guilherme (predeceased), Antonio (predeceased), Conceicao, Natalia, Filomena, Alda, and Mariana.
In Portugal, Elvira was a seamstress, and made her sister Natalia’s wedding gown. Elvira took pride in making clothes for all of her children and always made sure they were looking their best.
In 1961, Elvira immigrated to Canada where she embarked on a new journey with her husband and dedicated her life to her family. With her new-found love of Canada, an avid Blue Jays fan was born. She never missed a game. Elvira also enjoyed many weekend getaways to Niagara Falls and upheld the annual tradition of visiting the CNE with her husband and siblings. It truly was never a dull moment.
Elvira, we will miss you dearly, you will forever be in our hearts and minds.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospital for Sick Children or Operation Smile Canada.
