Obituary

Our beautiful mom Emilia Luisa Alexandre Torcato who we loved and cherished at the age of 91 has passed away on December 26, 2024.

She had a short battle with cancer and died peacefully at Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

Emilia was the second youngest of five children born March 25, 1933 to Joaoquim and Maria Luisa Alexandre in Portugal. Predeceased by her husband Aquilino Torcato as well as her sisters Maria (Manuel) Simoes, Elisa (Joao) dos Santos, Francelina (Francisco) Furtado, and survived by her brother Jose (Helena) Alexandre and sister in law Nelia (Manuel) Santos (predeceased)

Emilia was the proud mother to Anna (John) Botelho and Jose (Fatima) Torcato, and her grandchildren Melissa Botelho, Christopher (Sara) Botelho, Michael Botelho (predeceased) and Jeffrey Torcato were her pride and joy.

Her love and passion was cooking and baking, she was always willing to share her recipes with anyone without hesitation. She was well known for her shrimp dumplings (resois), croquettes, and her famous strawberry cheesecake among other delicious and savoury  dishes.

She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, brother, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to Diabetes Canada or Stevenson Memorial Hospital in honour of Emilia Luisa Torcato.
