Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laureana Rocha da Fonseca Pereira, beloved wife of the late José Fonseca Pereira, cherished mother of Agostinho (Joni) and São (Doug), adoring grandmother of Amanda (aka Sr. Maria Augustina) and Gilles, and loving sister of Jerónimo. She will also be greatly missed by her brother-in-law, Valentim, many nieces and nephews, and close friends who share her love of family and enriched her life over the years.
A devout Catholic, who shared with us many stories of her teenage years in a convent boarding school, Mom/Vóvó lived her faith as our staunch matriarch, as a loyal friend and as a caring champion of anyone she thought needed a helping hand or simply a friendly ear.
We feel privileged to have been able to return her love and devotion in her later years as she faced Alzheimer’s, rarely complaining despite her troubles, and often amusing us with her quick wit. We could not have given our sweet Mãe/Vóvó the care she needed and deserved without the help of the many caring and hardworking PSWs, like Maria Lopes and Manuela, that made up “Team Laureana”. We are so, so grateful for all they did for her and, in turn, for our family.
We would also like to thank Dr. De Figueiredo for her kindness as well as her medical expertise, and Roisin, the tireless, proactive and kind Care Coordinator who epitomizes the word “Support” in HCCSS.
Rest In Peace, sweet Laureana. Heaven waits for you. Say hello to Dad/Vôvô and our furbabies.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
