Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Odilia V. Arruda. Surrounded by family and loved ones, Odilia passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at the age of 91.  She has been reunited with her loving husband, Manuel Arruda, who passed away on December 25, 2020.

Originally from Bretanha, Sāo Miguel, Açores, she is predeceased by her parents, João Vicente Arruda and Mariana da Luz Rego.  She is survived by her children, Regina Reda (Raffaele), John Arruda (Laura), Odilia Arruda, Joseph Arruda (Paula), Teresa Fuina (Joe) and Diane Arruda (Rob), her cherished grandchildren, Melissa Rea (Vito), Jennifer Lagrandeur, Shaun Arruda, Andrew Arruda (Michelle), Kloe Arruda, Christopher Arruda, Noah Arruda and great grandchildren, Wade Casey, Cienna Rea, Vito Rea, Daxx Lagrandeur, Hazel Lagrandeur, Bella Rose Lagrandeur, Dylan Arruda and Nicholas Arruda.  Odilia is also survived by her sister Regina Arruda (Humberto).

She will be missed greatly by her sisters-in-law, Teresa Arruda, Maria Arruda, Maria Lourdes Arruda, brother-in law Manuel Jacob as well as her many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.  She will also be missed by extended family members, friends, neighbours, and her Parish community.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at SRT Med Staff, Storefront Humber and The Dorothy Ley Hospice centre for the tremendous care, support, patience and love they shared with our beloved mom daily.  A special thanks to two incredible human beings, our amazing PSW staff members, Liza Bertrand, and Quamar, who always, pushed mom and kept her mobile and treated her with such care, dignity, and love.   A special mention to the care provided by Liza Bertrand, who treated our mother as her own.  Liza exemplified the uttermost love and compassion towards our dear mother.  Words cannot express the gratitude we have for her.  She became family and is family.  She always made mom laugh, respond, and even dance.  Thank you so much Liza and Quamar.  Two amazing individuals who will never know how appreciative we truly are.

Eating soft serve ice-cream from the ice-cream truck will never be the same.  Mom we will think of you every time we eat one.
