Obituary

ALEKSANDR YAROSLAV CZEMERYNSKI It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Aleksandr Yaroslav Czemerynski at St. Joseph’s Health Centre on September 8, 2016 at the age of 91 after a very sudden and brief illness. He leaves to mourn his wife Maria of 70 years, his children Lesia, Mykhajlo (Krystyna), Hanya (Michael) and Evstakhi, his grandchildren Rostyslav(Tanya), Yaroslav, Darka (Darryl), Taras (Sokrouen), Tania , Juliana and Andrei, his great grandchildren Maksym, Dimitri, Stella, Vayla and Lazlo, his sister Anne and her family, many nephews and nieces and extended family in Canada, Ukraine and Belarus. He was predeceased by his parents Maria Lutecka and Evstakhij Czemerynski and his brother Mykhajlo. Aleksandr was born on January 14, 1925 in selo Mali Lanky, Lviv oblast, Ukraine. Life was not easy and he faced many challenges. He was raised by his grandmother after his parents immigrated to Canada in search of a better life when Aleksandr was only 7 years old. He was left behind with the hopes of reuniting later. Unfortunately the war and history intervened and they remained separated. It was 40 years later that he was finally re-united with his parents and met his younger sister Anne for the first time when he immigrated to Canada with his wife and children in 1972. Aleksandr loved working with his hands as an auto mechanic in Ukraine and maintenance mechanic at Dempsters. He loved cars; fixing them was his hobby; he often did this for his children, grandchildren, friends and neighbours. His grandchildren brought him great joy and happiness. He was independent till his last days and always kind and helpful to his neighbours. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at St. Josephs Health Centre for their care and compassion, and the hospital chaplin, Father Boris, for his prayers, and all the neighbours who showed much kindness and support to Alex over the years. The family is also very grateful to Father Igor Panchyshyn who gave Aleksandr his last sacraments. Visitation will be held on Monday September 12, 2016 at Cardinal Funeral Homes, 92 Annette Street, Toronto between 6-9 pm, Panakhyda at 7:30 pm. Divine Liturgy and funeral service will take place on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 10 am at Ukrainian Catholic Sobor of the Holy Protection, 30 Leeds Street, Toronto. Burial will follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre or St. Joseph’s Health Centre. Vichnaya Pamyat’.
