Obituary

Passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 57. Bruce was the loving husband of Shelby for 31 years. Proud Dad of Ryley, Jade, and Aidan. Beloved son of John and Fran Hayter, and younger brother of Scott (Sue) and Jim (Lindy).  Son-in-law of Roma and Wynne Watson and brother-in-law of Andrea (John) and many nieces and nephews.  Bruce will be dearly missed by his family and friends. For 25 years, Major Hayter served in the Canadian Airforce and most recently was an instructor for Transport Canada. He loved spending time at his Muskoka cottage which he always called home for family and friends.  He was incredibly fun-loving and always supportive of family activities. His great sense of humour will be missed by all.

Dearest Shelby, Ryley, Jade, Aiden and the entire Hayter and Watson Clans. The news of Bruce’s passing has just reached us here in Hong Kong. We are gutted to hear that one of life’s most decent and outstanding human beings has departed this earth. The times we all spent together in Moose Jaw (as room mates, squadron mates, team mates, at progressive dinner parties, combined mess diners, euchre nights, house parties, MC’ing our Wedding, on cross-country flights, and ski trips etc) well….. let’s just say that that posting alone provided Lori and I with a life time of cherished memories. We have Bruce and yourself to thank for it. Lori and I have been blessed to have had several wonder people come into our lives. And Shelby, you and Bruce are two of the finest individuals we have had the privilege to be able to call friend. Per Ardua Ad Astra. Godspeed Bruce Hayter. Keep shooting the puck. You had one-hell-of-a one-timer.

Deepest condolences to Shelby, Ryley. Jade and Aidan. Your husband/father was a genuinely good person, who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was devoted to his family, was a supportive husband and father, and Dave always spoke highly of him from years of working with Bruce at both 412 and TC. He was always in good spirits and never complained. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him. One comforting thought is that Bruce and Dave are now soaring the skis together - two close friends that always kept in touch.

Shelby and Family Andrea and I are so sad to hear of Bruce's passing. I went right to my log book, and was reminded of our wonderful times together on two squadrons (414 and 434) and three bases (North Bay, Shearwater and Greenwood) in the 90s. A gentleman, superb pilot, husband, father, friend - what a special man. Although he has left us much too soon, he touched many lives and left a proud legacy of family and friends. Your friends and family grieve with you and hopefully provide some comfort at this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.

Ken Murton - Air Canada (Capt CAF ret)
To Shelby and family. It was a terrible shock to hear about Bruce's passing. I had the good fortune of having Bruce as one of my instructors in Moose Jaw (90-91) and as a squadron colleague at 434sqn Greenwood (95-97). Bruce was always a pleasure to fly with, even as one of his students. His sense of humour and professionalism helped mold many aspiring new pilots by bringing out the best in us, even when I know we were trying his patience. His legacy continues to this day as we all carry on his teachings in our careers and we, ourselves, now mentor the next generation of pilots. Bruce ... You will be missed, but never forgotten. Per Ardua ad Astra my friend.

Shelby and family....this is so hard to believe and I wish I was there to hug you. Bruce was such a fun-loving and fantastic guy. Our Moose Jaw days were so memorable. We can't look at those old pictures without a big grin on our faces. He knew how to laugh and how to make us laugh. Shelby, I told you that he is the one person that could crack me up no matter what and this was his gift to me that I will treasure. His sense of humour was amazing. We witnessed a fantastic husband and father and his presence will be missed. I have stories that I tell about you both and will continue to tell. He will be forever in our hearts.
