Benny will be greatly missed by his loving sisters Joana Carvalho, Delmira Da Costa (David Costa) and Irodina De Medeiros (Manuel), as well as his sister-in-laws Salome Ventura and Luiza Almeida, and his youngest bother-in-law, Jose Francisco Frizado (Conceicao) whom Benny always thought of as a son. In 1967 Benny and Maria Conceicao immigrated to Canada with their two children, one suitcase and $500. Benny and Maria were committed to building a better life for their family in Canada, and indeed they did. As a child Benny had to work to support his family in Portugal and as such, he had very little formal education, although he had a great appreciation for literature and could easily come up with versus of poetry. Benny took great pride in his children and grandchildren’s academic success, and would often boost to whomever would listen that one of his granddaughters was a teacher and the other was a lawyer. Benny had a zest for life and was always the life of the party. He loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, to sing fado, travel with his family and tend to his beautiful garden, which was and still is famous in his neighborhood and even featured in local publications.
