Obituary

Strong, loving and family oriented until his very last days, our beautiful father Carlos Raposo de Arruda passed away peacefully on December 6th at the age of 82.

The youngest born son to José and Gertudes.  He was predeceased by his siblings José, Maria de Luz, Antonio, Henrique, João, Manuel, Jesuina, Sestina and survived by his sister Cidalia. He was born in 1941 in Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores, Portugal.  Where he was raised until he immigrated to Canada in 1966 at the young age of 25

He came to Canada to create a better life for him and his family. He was extremely hardworking, determined and was willing to do anything he could to make sure he could provide.  He started painting homes and businesses with a contracting company all over Ontario and Quebec to then land a job with Proctor & Gamble, painting their factory and machines at their Weston Plant, while still painting homes after work each day. With his strong work ethic, he got hired to be a machinist at the same plant, that then was bought by Irving Tissue in 2001. He retired in 2006 at the age of 65.

In 1960, he set his sights on the love of his life Maria Lucia Pereira Julio at a Portuguese festival.  Where they dated for 8 years starting through her window of her family home. Determined to bring her to Canada and to start their life together.  They married shortly after she arrived in 1968 at St. Mary Parish and went to spend 63 years together.

He was loving father to his 3 sons John (Suzy), Nelson (Fatima) and Mike (Katie).  He was a cherished Avô to Jordan, Mason, Victoria, Jordan, Jackson and Mike Jr.  Along the way, he was an active member of the Catholic Church.

He spent his final years in his cherished home in Seaton Village with his wife Maria Lucia, where he lived for more than 50 years. Among the many examples he set for his family and friends over the course of his life, he remained strong-willed and determined throughout his battle with dementia even in his final days.

The family kindly asks in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest.org to help the research against Alzheimers and Dementias.

————————————————
