Obituary

Chris Foster was born September 7, 1941 and grew up in Cheltenham, England.  In 1966 he embarked upon the next phase of his life and moved to Canada.

He arrived in Montreal, settling initially in Windsor for a year.  He then moved to Burlington where he lived for almost 30 years, and finally to Toronto.

Chris was involved in both residential and commercial real estate for most of his life.  He worked at numerous firms including Guaranty Trust, Midland Doherty in oil and gas investments and his own real estate firms.

He was very active in all kinds of sports and hobbies: rally car driving, diving, photography, skeet shooting, squash, hockey, downhill skiing, fishing, lawn bowling and amateur radio.  He was also a Freemason.  One of his most favourite pastimes was boating which he started pursuing in England and continued here in Canada.   He enjoyed sailing and racing  both larger boats and dinghies, then power boats when his health wouldn’t allow him to sail any longer.

He wintered in Puerto Vallarta for many years and for the past few years Suncity, Arizona, where he enjoyed lawn bowling, creating jewellery and stained glass.

Chris always believed in making the very most out of life and being as helpful as he could be to anyone he met. He leaves a huge void in the lives of his partner of 42 years Ineke Sutherland, his son Grant Foster and daughter Wendy Foster. Godspeed Chris.

Yesterday I heard about Chris and I was really sad. Don and I had a lot of good times with both of you in PV and here. My sister also would like to send on her condolences. Sorry I won't be there today but my thoughts will be with you and God Bless.

Inked, Grant and Wendy - there are few words to express my sorrow felt on learning this tragic news. Reflecting back has reminded me of our shared history of almost 20 years which includes many fond memories of Chris. My hope is that you have also been remembering the happy times and take comfort in knowing that Chris is now at peace.

So very sorry for your loss. Chris was a such a great guy, and the best neighbour you could hope for (especially when you share a wall)! I loved his stories; he was clearly very proud of his children. He would bend over backwards to help out for any reason in any way he could. He was always so kind to me, and my daughter. Reminders of him are all around our house. We will really miss him. My deepest condolences.

He was taken too young. I really liked Chris and we did lots of things together in P V. When my husband didn't feel well, Chris brought us dinner. Great cook! Also, loved to talk a lot and organize things. Enjoyed Rotary Club with Chris. He loved to talk to my husband George about The Shrine organization. I will miss his jokes and emails. Chris had so much to offer and was fun to be with.
