Condolences to the family of Gus Kois. I just saw this now. I went to York University with him in 1976-80 and he was a good friend and smart and thoughtful student. He thought deeply about human issues always. It sounds like it led him in his path to be a teacher and wise person. I recently found a poem in an old book that he wrote that he shared, about his journey in life. The final verse was: When the end is near, and life is sweet He does not hide the bitter truth; but stands with faith, his life on proof and strength, for things to come; to meet ...I think he left you with a great legacy it seems

Dear Mr. Kois' family, my deepest condolences to you upon the passing of your beloved father, husband and grandfather. May your many memories of Kostas help to sustain you at this most difficult time. Kostas was a gifted personality whose presence was constantly felt at school. Regardless of your age you always felt that there was a connection between Kostas and you. He was always very supportive and tried to give you his advice in the most polite and discreet manner. At the same time, Kostas motivated you in order to become a better teacher. I will never forget his clarity of thought and the way he was dealing with any matter that was coming up. Kosta thank you for everything you taught us but above all thank you for being real.

To the entire Kois family, It was with great sorrow that we just saw on the Oakwood Alumni site, that Gus passed away. I will always remember him as a great athlete at OCI and a someone who always had words of encouragement for us younger student athletes. My thoughts and prayers are with his brother Mike, who I knew quite well and the entire family, during this difficult time. May her rest in peace and his memory eternal

We were so sad to hear that Costas passed away at such a young age, especially since we were hoping to see him again at school one day or when our kids reach graduation. He inspired and helped our two children in numerous ways in elementary, being a support to us in times of difficulty. My son, who is now in 10th grade, told me his most important memory is that Costas always encouraged him to follow his dreams and that maybe this is the reason he still holds fast to his desire to become a film director. He had a gift for making observations of each student, about what he saw as unique and special. He unlocked the students' ability for self-expression and was himself, for us, candid, humble and authentic, sensitive and accessible. We will always remember the marble collections, the many self-made books the students wrote in that 3rd grade class, the emphasis on reading and writing, and the kind words and positive encouragement, and his human, individual, flexible approach to school learning - something that cannot be underestimated in our world today. We will never forget how he made our entry to Greece, so hospitable. May he rest in peace.

Dear Mr.Kois's Family, I was incredibly sad when I learned that Mr.Kois passed away. Although I never had him as a teacher, I learned many things from him. One thing I learned, is that I always have to look on the bright side of things. He would always make me smile and laugh with many of his stories he would tell us. He was a lovely principal and person, always so cheery and proud. He never disappointed anyone, instead, he would try his best to help everyone. Mr.Kois would be fair and would have a solution for everything. All of my family has been very close to Mr.Kois. His fascinating and sweet spirit will remain forever in our minds and hearts. May his soul rest in peace. Maria, Leonidas, Filiana, Andreas.❤

Dear Kois Family, I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Mr. Kois. My deepest condolences. Mr. Kois was a wonderful colleague. He was a unique and special person who always greeted me with a warm smile. His energetic spirit and love of life uplifted me each day, along with his philosophical views. The joy he projected was infectious. If ever I was having a hard day Mr. Kois would tell me to smile. He would say to me, "Petroula where's your beautiful smile? You're so beautiful when you smile." And just like that, I'd smile. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. As the Bible says "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted". God Bless the family. It is with profound sadness that the Pinewood community received the news of the untimely passing of our beloved teacher and Principal. Mr. Kois, as he was known to all of us, was a highly respected member of our Pinewood family for 32 years where he was beloved by students, colleagues and parents alike. His heart was so very big and his warm and welcoming personality was larger than life. He truly loved every student he taught, and his students created an incredibly personal bond with him. He brought an irreplaceable humanity to our school life and to the education profession. Please know that Mr. Kois touched the lives of almost every current student, teacher and staff member in our school, as well as countless others who have long since left Pinewood. His reach is far and wide and his passing is an incredibly devastating loss for the world. Mr. Kois will be dearly missed by the Pinewood family. Prayers to your precious family. With love from his school, Pinewood
