I am so sorry to see this so late after the fact. I had the privilege of meeting Derrick when I was in high school. I was a life guard at Alexandra Park, and met Derrick while he played lacrosse at the rink next to the pool. We dated for a couple of years, and although we were from different worlds, he played a very important role in my life. I send my condolences to his entire family, especially to his siblings, and his children. I am sorry to hear of his moms passing, I was extremely fond of her.

Derrick was one of the most down to earth people I knew! I always spoke highly of him. He gave me alot of insight on life. I hated my old job until I got to work with Derrick. We had a blast working together. We used to snack out and laugh hysterically over funny stories on our breaks. He always walked me to my car to make sure I was safe. Gave me advice about kids, work, relationships, money. I bet he made a great dad. I know he loved his kids deeply. He always talked about them, and showed off their pictures. He was such a good friend. I'm sure going to miss him. My condolences to his family. Forever in my heart. Rest peacefully my fellow east coaster.

I grew up in Alex Park with Derrick (Dinky). Shared a few classrooms at Ryerson, played on numerous sports teams together. My wife Natalie also knew Derrick from his lacrosse days at St.Chris. Always knew him to be such a humble and genuine person with a big heart and always smiling. It was a shock to hear of his passing. Our deepest condolences go out to the Jackson family and our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. Rest in Peace DJ. God bless to all!

Derrick was a fun loving, kind and wonderful human being who I had the pleasure of working with him at B&P. We always joked that we wanted to Trademark the term, common sense doesn’t come in a box. His laugh was infectious and his comic relief during long, busy days was always welcome. He loved his family, friends and was always there to lend a helping hand. I’m so saddened by his passing but I hope he’s resting in peace and shining down on us. My sincere condolences to his children and loved ones. RIP DJ until we meet again. ♥️

Derrick was a close family friend for as long as I can remember, in fact he was family, him and Wayne were brothers. We will always have great memories of him. We lovingly referred to him as 'Chef' as he would cook all the meals at our golf tournaments and loved doing it; Derrick, food and friends was a beautiful combination. Derrick was always an easy going, happy guy who always made you feel comfortable and important. It was heart breaking to hear the news of his passing way too early in his life. We love you Derrick and will miss you but never forget you. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to Derrick's family and friends in this very difficult time.

I worked with Derrick for a short time at Markham Stouffville Hospital. At first, I knew him to be the man who came from a paradise in Nova Scotia. Then I realized that he was a doting father who gave up this paradise for the sake of his family in Ontario. He was an inspiration to me to be a resourceful, hardworking, and sincere person at heart. I loved his down-to-earth and easygoing attitude. I pray that you would find peace and comfort from God in the midst of this difficult time.

To my Toronto family, Once again our chain has been broken, but if your hearts are anchored in Jesus the chain will be relinked someday in heaven. I will always remember the great conversations Derrick and I would have about the family and life itself. He was the first person to wish me Happy New Year this year, I will always remember this! On behalf of my family, Estelle, Colin, Adrienne and I, Bob Ellis, please accept our sincere condolences to the Jackson family on the passing of Derrick Gregory Jackson. Derrick was one of the many children I met in Alexandra Park Community back in the 1970s when I became an athletic and youth worker at St. Christopher House. Derrick or Dinky, as he was affectionately known, participated in a variety of programs offered by the House including after school programs, night gym, basketball, lacrosse and teen leadership. Recently Derrick delighted me with fond memories of raising his own children and coaching other kids in sports while living in Nova Scotia. Clearly, he wanted me to know how important his early years in sports and caring for others was to him and how he willingly and successfully gave back to his community Down East. I am confident Derrick has left a significant legacy of parenting, coaching and love of family, friends and community, may he rest in peace.
