Obituary
Domingos De Jesus Rodrigues, former tailor, Portuguese Military Police veteran, Lisbon taxi driver and maintenance worker at the CNE for over forty years, passed on June 4, 2018. Domingos was born in Montalegre, Portugal, on April 1, 1941 to Domingos Rodrigues and Aurora De Jesus Martins. He attended seminary in his early teens, then proceeded to apprentice as a tailor in Porto until he went to Lisbon to work at the historic Hotel Rex. Domingos served as a Military Police officer with the Portuguese Military in Angola from 1963 to 1965. Upon returning to Lisbon, Domingos worked mainly as a taxi driver until he immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1971. Upon arriving in Toronto, Domingos worked a variety of jobs before settling in with his “second family” at the CNE maintenance department, especially Gill, Bento and Cruz, with whom he worked for decades until shortly before his passing. He also enjoyed reading a wide variety of newspapers, traveling yearly to his beloved Portugal, keeping current with national and international politics and “futebol” and spending time with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Domingos passed peacefully with family by his side on Monday, June 4, 2018. He was seventy-seven years old. Domingos will forever be dearly missed by Palmira, his adoring and devoted wife of fifty-six years. Domingos was a devoted “Pai” to his two sons, Rogerio and Vasco, his two daughters-in-law, Maria Jose and Andrea, and a loving and proud “Avo” to Brittany, Aleksa, Sofia and Alistair. Friends and family may visit the Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst St., Toronto, on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Ontario Lung Association or St. Agnes Church in memory of Domingos.Visitation
