Obituary
Mr. Eduardo Ferreira de Arruda
(26 February 1943- 31 March 2021)
It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss we announce the sudden passing of Eduardo Ferreira de Arruda. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Maria da Conceição. Eduardo passed away on March 31st, surrounded by his family and enormous love. He was the loving father of Patricia (Steven), predeceased by his son Jerry and daughter Diane. Affectionately called ‘Avô’ by his three grandchildren, Samantha, Adam, and Emilia.
Eduardo was born in Ribeira Seca, Ribeira Grande, Açores where he worked the land alongside his father and brothers. He immigrated to Canada in 1970 but always maintained a lifelong affection for his heritage. In Canada, Eduardo worked tirelessly, with both skill and integrity as a roofer journeyman for over 40 years. As a retiree, you could always catch him sitting on the porch of his home listening to a soccer game (Sporting Clube de Portugal or Portugal National Team), philharmonic band music, or ‘cantigas ao desafio’.
Eduardo was all about family and his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His courage, strength, grit, resilience, sense of humour, impatience with nonsense, and stubbornness will live on in his loved ones. The legacy he leaves behind is the true meaning of the word family which encompasses not only love, but mutual respect, and always being united. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings, nieces, nephews, Godchildren and friends, but will live on in cherished memories.
