Filipe Ricardo Santos

Husband of the late Vicencia for almost 62 years.  Father to Isabel and Arthur.  Father-in-law to Tony.  Loving and beloved grandfather to Sarah, whom he and Vicencia doted on.  Their eyes would light up and immediate smiles came to them whenever they were together or spoke.

Born in Serra D'El-Rei to very humble and hard working families.  Emigrated to France and West Germany.  In 1972 immigrated to Canada thanks to the support and generosity of his cousin Eulalia and her husband Saul.  In early 1974, Vicencia, Isabel and Arthur joined and were very welcomed by the Costa, Constantino and Leal cousins.

For several years, Christmas and New Years were always celebrated with his late cousin Ricardo and extended family and there were the annual day trips to Sandbanks Park.

Filipe Ricardo worked hard in the construction field.  Like many immigrants he and Vicencia toiled so that their efforts would be of benefit to their children and grandchild.  They were very proud of Sarah's educational and personal achievements and were always encouraging of her pursuits and dreams.

For many years, Filipe Ricardo enjoyed friendships, comradery, hunting, dinners, card games and laughter with a bunch of buddies and their families from Serra.

Filipe Ricardo and Vicencia enjoyed return trips to Portugal feasting on great food, having the ocean nearby and most especially time spent reconnecting with their many family and friends.

In his later years, Filipe Ricardo was caregiver to his ailing wife.  In the last year he was cared for by Isabel and Tony, and so looked forward to and enjoyed his visits and calls with Sarah and Arthur.

The family thanks Dr. Black, Ingrid and Maria for the many years of excellent care and the dedicated multidisciplinary teams at Sunnybrook Hospital and Michael Garron Hospital, as well as the PSWs, especially Betti and Aster.  The family especially thanks Daniella and Just Like Family team for their extra supports and great care to Filipe, Isabel, Tony and Sarah.
