Obituary
Francisco Da Luz, a treasured father, grandfather, great-grandfather and beloved friend passed away suddenly at the age of 88 on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Toronto, Ontario.
Francisco’s memory lives on through his dedicated children Maria Ventura (Antonio), Ana Da Luz, and Rui Da Luz (Dianne), his adoring grandchildren Stephanie Ventura (Jeff), Amy Ventura (Louie), Victoria Pezzente (Nick), Christopher Silva, Nicholas Ventura, Kyle Da Luz, Matthew Tomlinson and Jake Da Luz, and his loving great-grandchildren Olivia, Aurora, Theodore, Easton, Elora and Constantino. He is fondly remembered by his sisters Clarinda Quadros, Teresa Melo, and Ondina Melo, brother-in-law Eurico Bettencourt, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and honourary grandchildren.
Francisco is reunited with his beloved wife Berta, who preceded him in death in 2005. He is also predeceased by his sister Maria Felix, brother Manuel Quadros and parents Jose Felix and Maria Leonor Quadros.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Francisco married Berta on December 14th, 1961 and together they immigrated to Canada in 1969 with their three young children. Francisco was a proud Canadian citizen, but always maintained a deep connection to the customs and traditions from his homeland which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Francisco was hardworking, dedicated and patient – qualities that shone through as he steadfastly supported and cared for his wife through her journey with terminal cancer. In spite of struggles and hardships, Francisco rarely complained; he loved to celebrate life’s special moments by cooking delicious foods, singing loudly, and giving his grandchildren a run for their money on the dance floor. We will miss hearing his witty, perfectly-timed comments, and the quiet way he shared wisdom and showed love.
Francisco was a friend to all who knew him, and an example of a life lived in service to others.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by loved ones, until we meet again.
If desired, donations in memory of Francisco may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
