Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John Simas announces his passing at the age of 61 years. Known to everyone as "Uncle John”, he was a fighter, a survivor, and a hero to us all. He was truly one of a kind.

John was born in the Island of Pico, Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Maria Conceição Simas and the late João Simas. In March 1968, John emigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada with his mother and two of his sisters Sãozinha and Armanda. At the young age of 26, John underwent a heart transplant and beat all odds with his passion for life and love for his family.

Uncle John was not just an uncle, he was the first friend to all his nephews and nieces: Liz, Anna, Susy, Mike, Rudy, Melissa, and Brian and great nephews and nieces: Nikki, the late Jordan, Dylan, Justin, Nicholas, Jazzy, Georgia, Megan, Xavier, Zachery, Isabella, Abigail, Oscar, Quinton, and Jayden. He taught us how to make paper planes and boats, how to play crazy 8’s, but most of all he showed us love.

He had a passion for life, fishing, music, swimming, cycling, and roller coasters.

John will be lovingly remembered by his siblings: António (Lucilia), Maria Natalia (the late Arthur), Maria Conceicao “Sãozinha” (José Mario), and Armanda (Tony), nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

You will always be “Uncle John” to us. We will miss you and cherish the memories you created for each one of us. Thank you for being you. Gone too soon. Forever in our hearts.

Due to the current Covid - 19 restrictions in Toronto that allow a maximum number of guests to attend a funeral, the service details will be kept private and attendance will be by invite-only.

The family thanks you for your support and understanding during this challenging time.
