Obituary

José was the loving husband of Luzia of 67 years, the father of Terri and Frank, the grandfather of Brandon and Adam, and the father-in-law of Michael. José loved spending the afternoon sitting on the veranda and waving to the people who passed him on the street. He loved to garden in the backyard and grew the world’s possibly largest squash, much to the amazement of his grandsons. He was a great cook and a fervent Benfiquista. He loved his home in Toronto and was very proud to be a Canadian citizen. He also loved the adventures he had in Brussels and his travels throughout Europe. He enjoyed playing Sueca and Bisca with his grandsons when he had the chance. José respected everyone he met and always left a lasting impression on others. Finally, he would like to thank his family physician, Dr. William Etzkorn, who provided him with the greatest of care and support for 34 years. José always said that Bill was like a son to him and the family would like to thank Bill for all he has done for us.

I'm very sorry for your loss. No doubt this is a difficult time. Jehovah God knows how hard it can be losing someone. That is why he promises to be close to the " brokenhearted." (Psalms 34:18) Soon he promises to bring about a new kingdom ruled by his son Jesus Christ. (Matthew 6:9,10) Under his rule he will bring back to life those who have fallen asleep in death on a paradise earth. In this new world death will no longer exist. (Isaiah 25:8) Until this promise comes true may you draw comfort for these scriptures because God "cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

Querida Sra.

Dear Terri, Wishing you and your family my deepest condolences for the passing of your beloved father. I have great memories of him when we'd go over to your home to "hang out". He was a great cook who had a recipe published in "Uma Casa Portuguesa"! I also remember he was a loving father and husband. I believe your first days were spent sleeping in the warmth and cradle of his arms. I hope your cherished memories bring you peace and comfort. With Kind Thoughts, Maria Benevides
