Obituary

José Pacheco Miranda passed away peacefully in his home on September 22nd, 2020 at the age of 85. He was born in the town of Remédios Bretanha, São Miguel, Portugal on February 14th, 1935, to parents Luis Miranda and Juana Benjamin, the fourth of eight siblings. In his youth, after serving his term in the military, he worked for the state electrical company and helped to bring electricity to remote parts of the island for the first time. José married Maria do Carmo Martinho in 1961 and had two sons, Joe and Luis, before emigrating with his family to Toronto in 1974. He later worked at Toronto Terminals Railway for 21 years, building and maintaining railroads until his retirement in 1998. He lived with Maria in their home on Brock Avenue from 1983 until her death in 2002. In his retirement, he enjoyed returning to São Miguel every year to spend time with his large extended family. Through his final years, he was lovingly cared for by his son Luis, who was there by his side when he passed on. He is survived by his sisters Dorvalina, Margarida, and Ilda; his sons Joe and Luis; and his grandsons Michael and David. Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst St, Toronto, on Friday, September 25th from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Sebastian's Church, 20 Pauline Ave, Toronto at 11am. All are welcome while mindful of the Covid19 parameters stated below.
