Obituary

Halka, Joseph – Born in Ustya Zelene, Ukraine on August 23, 1919 and entered Eternal Life on Sunday November 30, 2014 at his home in Toronto. Beloved Husband of Maria. Devoted Father of Stephanie and husband Mario. Loving Grandfather of Katherine, John and Kristen. Dear Brother to John (Christina) and Uncle to Rosemary (George) of Niagara Region and Anne (Joe) of Ottawa Region. A very special thanks to the wonderful caregivers from CCAC – Nurse Eva, Liliya and Sophie that gave him comfort and loving care – especially in his final weeks of life. Joseph was regarded for his kind, gentle and dignified demeanor. He loved his family dearly – both near and in his beloved Ukraine. He also loved his church community. Joseph was a self taught musician. He enjoyed gardening, being invited to socials and he had a passion for living. Joseph will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst St., Toronto on Thursday December 4, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will take place at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwoods Ave., Toronto on Friday December 5th, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at York Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Children of Chernobyl or a charity of choice.
