I'm just reading of Mr. Oliveira's passing now. I didn't know his name. Just his face in the hallway of TWH each day as I came into work. He always smiled and greeted me with "morning beautiful." What a way to start the day! And from a complete stranger! At the end of the day he wished me a good night. I've been on maternity leave so I only saw him recently as I came to the hospital for a personal visit. He was using a scooter then. But still pleasant and said hello. Such a friendly man. God bless you and may you rest in peace. I will miss your smiles each day.

Every day for the last 4 years since i moved to Canada i spoke with Luis at Toronto Western Hospital. He was a lovely person. last winter he wasnt there for a while and i was worried. He was back in the spring but looked a little thinner. I havent had the joy hearing his wonderful greeting for 2 weeks . I am so sorry to hear he has passed away. He made entering the building less anonymous, i will miss him. My family and I send our best wishes and prayers. Dr Kieran Murphy

To the children and family of Luis: I always looked forward to seeing Luis. Each time that I would walk by Luis-usually by the East Elevators at TWH, I was greeted with "Hello Beautiful" and with the warmest of smiles. I will miss his smile!

i found out today that a true gentleman and stalwart member of the Toronto Western Hospital passed away on Monday. For almost 3 years, I would pass this gentleman and his scooter every day on my way into the office and again on the way to get my coffee and then again by the patient library in the afternoon. He had a daily routine of where he sat as part of the community that come to share in the daily ebb and flow of a busy hospital. By my second week, i said hi to him. He said "hi Doug" and then gave the most amazing smile. He already knew who i was and the role i play in the West Wing. Such is the flavour that is the Western. Once and a while he would say to keep up the good work because people are counting on us. He greeted everyone that passed. I didn't see him on Friday, or Monday or Tuesday -- i made a note to ask today if everything is ok, i was missing his smile. I found out he joined his wife in heaven on Monday. Luis - My day and TWH will not be the same. God bless

Hello. I wanted to extend my sympathies to your family. I work at Toronto Western Hospital and have known your father over the years. He was such a sweet and pleasant person and I will miss seeing his friendly face every day at work. He was well know and loved here at TWH. Sincerely, Angela McGauley, Respiratory Therapist

Maria Benevides
Dear Oliveira family, My name is Maria Benevides and I work at TWH. I noticed that Sr. Luis was not at his "post" this week and wondered where about him. I was saddened to hear about his passing. Sr. Luis was always ready with a "Bom Dia Senhora!" and wishing all a good day. I witnessed him saying these greetings in several languages even! His smile and friendly face will be greatly missed. Please accept my deepest condolences. Maria

Dear Children of Senhor Luis, Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear father. I have many happy memories of ‘Senhor Luis’, as I called him. Everyday he would greet us as we entered and left the Leonard St. doors of Toronto Western Hospital. “Ola, Bom dia! Ja comeste?” he would ask me. He had a soft spot for the downtrodden quietly helping them many times. I will miss him dearly. God bless his soul and may you be comforted in knowing what a lovely, kind human being your father was. Sincerely, Margaret
