Obituary
In Loving Memory of Manuel Antonio De Almeida
September 12, 1940 - January 23, 2024
A shroud of profound sorrow envelops our hearts as we share the devastating news of the passing of our beloved patriarch, Manuel Antonio De Almeida. On January 23, 2024, at the tender age of 83, surrounded by the love of his family, Manuel embarked on his final journey, leaving behind a void that words fail to fill.
In the symphony of Manuel's life, Maria Celeste Almeida (Nee Araujo) was his enduring melody, and his children, Carlos (Julia) and the late Antonio (Sonya), were the verses of a love song written in the echoes of time. The laughter of Dillon, Ryan, and Hailey, his precious grandchildren, once painted the vibrant colours of his world, now reduced to muted hues in his absence.
Survived by siblings Antonio (Gina), Maria (Manuel, predeceased), Ijidio (predeceased) (Ceu), Loreano (Zeza), Avelino (Palmira), and Celeste (Manuel), Manuel's return to the embrace of his parents, Abilio Augusto De Almeida and Maria Etelvina Moutinho, marks the reunion of a family forever altered by the passage of time.
In the quiet town of Lousa-Torre De Moncorvo, Portugal, Manuel's journey began on September 12th, 1940. His brilliance in academics was a beacon of hope, his hands unlocking the doors of the school each morning. From the humble fields to the distant lands of Angola and Mozambique, Manuel's life unfolded as a tapestry woven with threads of courage and sacrifice during his service in the Army.
On October 16, 1966, Manuel and Maria Celeste sealed their love, a bond that weathered life's storms and celebrated its triumphs. From this union, Carlos and Tony emerged, their lives intertwined with the dreams and aspirations of a father whose resilience knew no bounds. Through the cobblestone streets of France and the industrious landscapes of Germany, Manuel sought to sculpt a better life for his family. The Canadian soil, embraced in the early '70s, became the canvas on which Manuel painted the aspirations of a brighter tomorrow, cementing his legacy in the Labourer's Union Local 506 as a masterful Concrete Finisher.
Manuel, a bastion of strength and wisdom, bestowed upon his sons the sacred values of hard work, family, honesty, and integrity. His own struggles became the stepping stones for a path he fervently believed should be smoother for those he held dearest. His devotion to Maria Celeste, Carlos, Tony, and his precious grandchildren knew no boundaries, a love that transcends the mortal coil.
Yet, woven into the fabric of Manuel's heart was a sorrow that eclipsed even the brightest moments—a grief etched into his soul over the loss of his son Antonio. The pain of that void was a silent undertow beneath his resilient exterior, a grief known to those who saw the shadows in his eyes when Antonio's name was uttered.
Dillon, Ryan, and Hailey, born from the same love that fueled Manuel's existence, brought boundless joy to his twilight years. As we bid farewell to Manuel Antonio De Almeida, tears fall like rain, each drop carrying the weight of memories, laughter, and a love that feels eternal. His absence leaves an ache that time cannot heal, a void that no words can truly encapsulate. May Manuel find eternal peace, and may his memory be a gentle rain, nourishing the gardens of our hearts, where his love will forever bloom in the tears we shed.
