COVID-19 restrictions have really prohibited a proper send off for our father, Manuel Arruda. We are extremely touched by the outpour of love and support by so many, both near and far. As a way to celebrate our dad, before he reaches his final resting place we have decided to have a tribute to him immediately after the funeral mass. We ask that friends and family members that wish to participate in this tribute, to line a designated area of the funeral procession route and honk and wave as we pass. It is a celebration after all. The procession will leave the church at approximately 10:45 AM on Tuesday December 29th and make its way to the cemetery. We will make our way through The Exhibition grounds along Prince's Blvd. off of Strachan, just north of the Lakeshore. Directly across from BMO Field there are two large and vacant parking lots where friends and family can line Prince's Blvd. as the procession passes. Although not how we imagined it, we would still love to see many of you then, even if just for a passing moment. Unfortunately strict number restrictions at the cemetery will not allow for anyone to follow along with us on to the cemetery after we have passed by. His final procession after the hundreds he walked in. (This spot can be found driving along Lakshore and turning into Remembrance Drive) The BMO field will be right there and the parking lot is off this street entrance). PLEASE STAY SAFE AND WEAR A MASK. FOLLOW ALL COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS!!!!!

My deepest condolences to the Arruda family. I am sorry to hear/read, of his passing, one of the first Portuguese pioneers, a true knight’s heart, of courage and honour. My own father came in the second boat, so I know very well, of their struggles. I have not yet told, my husband, as I am writing this note, at 2 a.m. I know that he will be sadden, to hear the news. All the memories, all linked to St. Mary’s church; and, the downtown core, of Toronto, our village, away from the village, of our ancestors. Take Care. Stay Safe. Many blessings upon your family.

My Dearest friend Odie,
My sincere and deepest condolences on the passing of your wonderful Father.
May the memories of his love for you and your love for him be your strength and comfort, during this most difficult time.
I will always have the memory of your Father, as the chauffeur to all the girls, when we all worked at St. Michael’s hospital. So very, very often, he would pick us up at our homes, take us to work and then take us all back to our homes after work. Always making sure that we all got home safe.
I will also have the memory of the Celebration given on your father’s behalf and all the other first Portuguese pioneers at St. Mary’s church of when they came to Canada. We all went back to your parents home to celebrate and watched the Leafs play that night.
You were always so very proud of your Father and you loved him so very much.
May He Rest In Peace and May your Father, be in God’s presence.

My dear cousins, we were very sad to hear of your dad's passing - Christmas Day will never be the same.
