Sousa, Manuel de Medeiros

God called Manuel de Medeiros Sousa peacefully on October 26, 2022, at the age of 101 and one day. He is reunited with his predeceased loving spouse Maria Helena Do Rego Sousa, loving angels Guilherme, Deolinda, Manuel, loving son Manuel Do Rego Sousa and great grandchild Nevaeh Smart. Cherished by His dear children, Guilherme (Filomena), Deolinda (Jose Luis), Helena (Vigen), Conceicao (Eduardo), Antonio and Joao (Benedita). Proud grandfather to Helena, Gorete, Jose Manuel, Pedro, Diane, Melanie, Stefanie, Michelle, Lisa, Carmen, Jennifer, Miguel, Sandra, Phillip, Brian, Jason, Faith, Kevin and great-grandchildren Ciara, Joshua, Dylan, Halen, Hugo, Valerie, Jahi, Jakaya, Jahmanni, Jahneil, Joshua, Kaylee, Olivia, James, Everley and Deliliah.

Manuel will always be remembered by his sister Deolinda Faria. Rejoined in heaven with his predeceased parents Manuel de Medeiros Sousa and Maria da Estrela, paternal grandparents Jose de Medeiros Sousa and Francisca de Conceicao, maternal grandparents Maria Jose do Rego and Manuel de Melo Botelho, siblings Antonio, Jose, Joao, Guilherme and Fernanda. He will be held dear in the hearts of his family, relatives, and many friends.

Manuel immigrated to Canada August 1960, seeking a better life for his family. In 1968, his family joined him.  During his time in Canada, he worked in the tobacco, carrot and tomato farms, cleaning, and construction.

Manuel had a great passion for hockey, soccer, wood carving, fishing, and caring for others. He was an avid gardener and tended his garden till the age of 93. One of his biggest passions was playing dominos and no one could beat him.  He was always the champion.  Heaven forbid he had all the doubles in his hand.

In his last year of life, he revealed many of his hidden secrets where we discovered that he spoke fluently in English, sang many songs, showed off his dance moves, knew many amazing poems and how can we forget about his great sense of humor, to name a few.

His strong Catholic Christian faith is what kept him going.
