Obituary
At the age of 93 on March 18th, 2022, our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, Michele Maccarone passed away surrounded by his children Isabel, Anna, Michelantonio (Tony), Leonardo and Elena.
Michele was the fourth of eight children born to Michelantonio and Isabella Maccarone in Caprino, Puglia, Italy on May 23rd, 1928. As a young boy, Michele worked on his family farm in Orta Nova and sold vegetables and other goods to the town.
It was in the town of Orta Nova when Michele first saw Carmela Basso. Michele married Carmela on December 27th, 1952 and later had three children while living in Italy.
In 1961, with his older brother (Tomasso), Michele ventured to Toronto, Canada to find work and prepare a life for his family. Ten months later in 1962, Carmela came with her children to join her husband, Michele. Michele and Carmela bought their only home in 1964 and had two more children. They lived happily in this home up until 2021.
Michele was a charismatic, hardworking man who prided himself on his work ethic and his family. Once he retired from working as a foreman at Midas, he became actively involved in a seniors’ club (Circolo dell’Anziano, Le Caravelle) and later served as President for many years. Michele always wanted to learn more about technology and could always be counted on to give a heartwarming speech at any occasion.
Michele’s favourite pastimes were his days at the senior clubs, reading the newspaper (Corriere Canadese) and watching soccer. Michele liked to joke around and make his grandchildren laugh.
Michele is survived by his loving family. Children: Isabel (Sam), Anna (Mario), Tony (Ilda), Leonardo (Tracy), Elena (Raffaele), Grandchildren; Robert (Susie), Diane, James (Amanda), Mark (Amrin), Amanda (David), Rachel (Elias), Alexander (Jessie), Adam, Christopher, Christian, Emma and Jeremy, Great Grandchildren; Sienna, Lorenzo, Logan, Charbel and another baby boy on the way.
Michele will be remembered for his wise words and lessons through his various speeches that he gave not only to his family, but to his friends.
We will miss him greatly but are comforted knowing he is reunited with his dearly departed wife, Carmela.
