Obituary

Heaven has gained a man of humour and gentleness.   It is with profound sadness that the family of Norman "Douglas" Hather announce his passing on August 24, 2023 in his 90th year.  Douglas was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2022 and congestive heart failure in June 2023.  He fought his diagnosis bravely and is now free from the pain and suffering he had to endure.   Douglas is now reunited with his predeceased wife, Jean, and son, Danny.  Douglas will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Terry (Brian), Lori (Joe), Cheryl and Chantal (Daughter in law), his grandchildren, Jason (Predeceased), Melissa (Kaler), Nicole (Richard), Jess and Amanda (Logan), and his great grandchildren, Gabriel and Emily, as well as his sister Evelyn Buckingham (102yrs.) and many nieces, nephews and neighbours.   The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the hospice team at Dorothy Ley Hospice for their unwavering kindness in trying to keep Douglas at his home of residence as long as they could.   Dad, we will hold you in our hearts until we can hold you again in heaven.

We live down the street from Doug and he was such a wonderful neighbour. We would often come home from work to find that Doug had swept our parking pad or we would see him at the side of the road, clearing out the gutters. I loved chatting with him about plants in the garden and the way he marked the change of the seasons with the cutouts along his fence and in front of his house. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
