Obituary

Paul Rypan August 19, 1924 – March 27, 2017. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Rypan. Paul was born in Zahvizdia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine – the son of Anton and Tekla Rypan. He had a very hard life since his mother passed away when he was 5 years old. Pavlo went away to work odd jobs from a very early age. In 1941 he arrived in Germany to work for Anton Kramer. After World War II Pavlo ended up in a displaced person’s camp where he met Olena Martyniuk, his future bride. His ticket to Canada was a lumberjack contract in Northern Ontario in 1947. Once he came to Toronto, he married his sweetheart who sailed in from Manchester, UK in 1948. He got a job at CNR and they started their family, Eugene (Maria Wasylkewycz) Rypan, Jerry (Jane McCallum) Rypan and Rosey (George Parubchak). The Rypans moved to a two-acre "farm" on Pellatt Ave. in Weston, ON. In 1961 they moved into the dream home Paul built nearby on Wendell Ave. Eventually, Paul worked for DeHavilland Aerospace wiring planes - an amazing accomplishment for a self-taught lad! Paul and Helen have six grandsons: Jerry Jr., John (Pamela Hodge), Joel (Terese Addy), Joshua (Joanna Mazzucco), Andre Parubchak (Cindy Jarzylo) and Simon Parubchak. Now they are blessed with seven great grandchildren: Hudsyn, Taylor, Sloane, Jameson, Logan and Weston Rypan and Alex Parubchak. The family thanks the caring staff of the Ivan Franko Home for Aged for three years of care and support. Paul is survived by his wife Olena (Helen) who is also being cared for at Ivan Franko Home. Resting at CARDINAL FUNERAL HOME, Annette Chapel. Visitation is on Wednesday April 5th, 6-8pm. Panachyda 7:30pm. The funeral service will be Thursday April 6th, 10:00am at Cardinal Funeral Home. Internment to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Building Fund of the Long Term Care – Ivan Franko Home for the Aged.
