Obituary

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the painful news of the passing of our Blessed husband, father and grandfather, Peter Cechosh, on Monday April 13, at the age of 97 - peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family.
Loving husband of Marta for 68 years, cherished father of Nadia Prokopiw, Jerry (Marlene), Walter (Lesia) and loving grandfather of Matthew, Cassandra (Dan), Adam, Maxim and Luke.

Mr. Cechosh was born December 14, 1922 in Volyn, Ukraine, where he lived a beautiful life in his beloved fatherland, and tragically, from where he had to escape the occupation by Soviet Russia during the war. He lived in Germany for 6 years after WW2, immigrated to Canada in 1950, and settled in Lachine/Montreal. He then moved to Toronto with his family in 1967.

Peter graduated from the University of Montreal and worked as an Architectural Technologist in his long career. He was also a Ukrainian language teacher at St. Volodymyr's Cathedral Ukrainian Studies, a job he absolutely loved because of the opportunity to teach his young students.  He was also a dedicated Volunteer and Board member of the Ukrainian School Board and co-organizer of the Living Word Festival at the Ontario Provincial UCC.

Peter was a steadfast patriot of Ukraine and an active member of both the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian hromada/community. He also served on the board of the “Ukrainian Writers for Children and Youth” for many years, where I recall him climbing on the ladders on the stage to hang the banners for the children’s concerts.

There will be a private family memorial service and a funeral at the Cardinal Funeral home on Annette St. April 15/16. Under better conditions, after the pandemic, we will have a memorial service for all.

A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Ukrainian World Congress or your favourite charity.

 Eternal Memory to Him!
