Obituary

Steve (Stjepan) Ivacko died peacefully in his sleep on October 17, 2017 in Vancouver, BC, having recently celebrated his 75thbirthday. Steve is survived by his wife of 51 years Stefani (Stefica), daughter Biserka (with husband Peter) of Acton, ON, and son Steven (with wife Caroline) of Vancouver, BC. Steve was born in a farming village near Ozalj, Croatia in 1942. He had fond memories of his time there, and made frequent trips back with his family over the years. After completing his military service in 1966, Steve moved to Toronto, Canada, to join his parents and establish his own family. Soon after his arrival he began working for Quality Meat Packers, where he remained until his retirement in 2007. Steve and Stefani made another move in 2014, to Vancouver, favoring the mild climate and proximity to the ocean in their later years. Together they enjoyed daily walks by the sea, and snow-free winters. Services will be held in Toronto with the viewings scheduled for Sunday October 22nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Cardinal Funeral home at 92 Annette Street (near Keele & Dundas), and the funeral mass at Church of Croatian Martyrs at 4605 Mississauga Rd (at Eglinton Ave West) at 10 am on Monday October 23. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Canadian Cancer Society.

I genuinely regret your loss. I hope that in due time your family receives God’s peace that excels all thought, so that it will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. God is called the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. Rest assured that he cares for all his creatures and he would never bring us suffering. A soothing scripture I like is Psalm 34:18 which reads: “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” He promised that in the Paradise, we will have the prospect of enjoying life without end, free from all problems, accidents, and sickness. Even our dead loved ones like Steve will be resurrected. (Psalm 37:9, 29; John 5:28, 29) With all my sympathy for the loss of someone so dear.
