Obituary

William John Harasym October 23, 1924 - January 26, 2017 Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Centre. Devoted husband of the late Marie (Alexandruk). Exemplary father to Terry and his wife Carmel (Keane). Proud grandfather of Darwin, Liam, Niamh and Mary. Survived by sister Doreen (Derek) Mansell, sisters-in-law Mary (Welikoklad) and Cindy (Fedechko) Alexander. Respected uncle of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents John and Dora, brothers Nick and Peter and tragically, son Peter. Born of immigrant parents in Red Deer, Alberta, William cherished his Ukrainian heritage and was dedicated to justice for working people. Proud of his WWII naval service, he was also active in the cause of peace. His work life traversed from union steward, to cultural organizer, to an executive of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians (A.U.U.C.). In retirement he joined the Shevchenko Museum board. Private cremation on January 31. Condolences at www.cardinalfuneralhomes.com. A memorial gathering will be held at the Toronto A.U.U.C. Cultural Centre, 1604 Bloor St. West, on February 26 at 1pm.
