Obituary

William Botteas was born in Detroit, March 2, 1928 where he was raised by his parents, the late Elizabeth (Ezadoxia) Mavrofrides, who was born in the Dardenell's that is now Turkey, and John (Yanni) Botteas, who was born in Platsa, Mani (Greece). His brother is Evans Botteas, 73, who lives in Lake Forest, California with his wife, Helen.



Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 7, 1946 and was honorably discharged May 7, 1949. He served overseas in the European theatre. His main service was in the country of Italy.



In Detroit, Bill worked for Dodge Main, and he was a hair stylist for several years. In Canada, he was a media consultant before he retired. His love of trees began in Detroit, and over the years he created an extensive exotic tree garden at his home in Toronto that he shared with his wife, Joyce Barslow, formerly of Barre, Vermont. He has one step-son, Anthony Verombeck also of Toronto.
