Obituary

It is with deepest sadness that the family of Wolodymyr (Walter) Mychajlycia announces his peaceful passing on May 25th 2016 of the age of 94. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father in-law. He leaves behind his wife Tania, daughter Nadia Tataryn (Taras) and grandchildren Tamara (John Galea) and Andrij. He left his home in Kozova, Ukraine during the Second World War. Post war he ended up in Edinburgh, Scotland to pursue a life of freedom and opportunity. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Tania. In 1954, he took advantage of an opportunity to emigrate with a young family to Canada. He worked several jobs before he found the one that suited him the best. After many years of service he retired from his job as a Warehouse man with CN Rail. He was a man of faith and strong supporter of many organizations in the Ukrainian community in Toronto. He especially enjoyed his volunteer work in the early years of the development of the Ukrainian Youth Association’s summer camp Veselka where his daughter and grandchildren spent many summers. He was a very handy man and enjoyed the challenge of fixing things or completing home improvement projects not only for his family but for many friends. He also enjoyed working with wood and was a skilled carpenter. His favourite activity was carving designs into wooden picture frames to mimic Ukrainian embroidery. Walter’s loss of mobility and the onset of dementia necessitated a change of residence to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre in 2012. During his residency, he was very well cared for and his family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the administration and staff who enhanced his quality of life. Visitation will be held at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre, 60 Richview Road, Toronto on Friday, May 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. Panahyda at 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, May 28th 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 300 River Oak Blvd (at Trafalgar Rd), Oakville, ON. Internment will be held at St. Volodymyr Cemetary, 1280 Dundas St. Oakville Ontario.

Your Tato was a kind and generous man, I will always remember when he made that wooden sword for our Danylo out of the goodness of his heart. A man truly dedicated to family. Our deepest condolences and may he rest with the Saints. Vichna yomu pamyat.
