Obituary
Anastasia Wawryshyn of Toronto passed away peacefully in hospital in her 100th year on November 3, 2006. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose strong religious faith and sense of duty towards her community sustained her throughout her long life. Predeceased by her husband Prokip, she leaves behind her son Michael Wawryshyn (Helen), daughter Mary Berketa (Ron) and daughter Anne Wawryshyn; grandchildren Olena Wawryshyn (Oleh Leszczyszyn), Oksana Wawryshyn, Stephanie Dawe (Greg) and Christine Yuzwin (Nick); great-grandsons Matthew and Michael Dawe. She also leaves behind, in Ukraine, her sister Kateryna and many nieces and nephews. Born on January 3, 1907 in the Ukrainian village of Teplyts, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Anastasia, displaying her characteristic tenacity and determination, emigrated to Saskatoon on her own at the age of 19, and then to Toronto. There, she met Prokip and became an active member of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Anastasia will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Family and friends will be received at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette Street ( near Keele), on Sunday from 6-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7 p.m., and Monday from 2-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. then to St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral for mass at 9:30 a.m. If desired memorial donations may be made to Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre.
