Born in Meixian China, she married the love of her life Ah Khone Lam Hang before moving to Mauritius. She became a widow at age 37, with 6 children aged between 2 and 12. Broken hearted, she was left helpless and destitute, and the family was split up.

She subsequently married Wong Chun Sen and had another daughter a few years later.

For a long time, her life was a constant struggle to survive. She faced numerous hardships and challenges.

After Wong Chun Sen passed away, she emigrated to Canada with her youngest daughter. There she was finally able to enjoy a new life of independence. She loved going to church, reading her Bible, watching Chinese movies, doing taichi, gardening and travelling.

She was already in her mid-50s when she first experienced God's love through her faith in Jesus Christ. From then on, this faith became her anchor. It helped her heal from the emotional and mental wounds of her past. Her faith also gave her the hope and reassurance that her family would be reunited once again.

And Almighty God was faithful. After 50 long years, and countless prayers, all her children, who had dispersed all over the world, started finally reconnecting. It is amazing how the family bond grew during the following years, despite time and distance.

The palliative care staff at The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre witnessed this bond and remarked on this. A special thanks for the excellent care they provided these past few months.

In her final days, God blessed Chow Mei Youn when all her children were there to say goodbye. It gave her great joy and peace seeing everyone together, as a united family.

She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday July 28, 2023.

Dear Mirella, sorry for your loss of your mother. Thank God that all your brothers and sisters from all over the world were with her when she passed away. I thank your mom as she was the person who invited me to Chinese Gospel Church of Toronto Cantonese congregation and I accepted Christ there. With deepest condolence.

To Mirella, Christiane Helen and the Lam hang family. First of all, Chuk and I would like to present our sincere condolences to you all. If we have not known your mother as much as we know some of her children like you, we are sure that she has been so blessed and honored by your exemplary life and dedication to the only God we know. God has blessed her with such a long life and we believe that the best part would have been those years, lived for Jesus. Though we are always sad for our departed ones, knowing that she is in a better place now, and that one day you will be be reunited with her brings comfort and peace in such a difficult time. May God be your strength and peace in the coming days ahead. Blessings - Chuk, Laval and family

Dear Mirella, Christiane & Helen, I remember your mother before starting primary school. She hinted to my parents, she was moving out and recommended renting her place as it was very affordable. Thanks to her, we moved to 27 Rue Abbe Harel in Rose-Hill and stayed there for the next 15 years. The house was very, very old (by God's grace it survived Gervaise and other cyclones), but it had a huge yard, a huge litchi tree, a big avocado tree (when in season, so many big avocats fell off the tree and hit the corrugated iron roof and made so much noise), ene pied fruit a pain and part of the neighbour's mango tree. Mom was able to plant lots of vegetables and raise chickens for the family. From there, Jean-Pierre, Francoise and I started to go to bible study at George and Michaela's house and playing volleyball at St Andrew's (located behind the house) every Friday afternoon with the church's Groupe des Jeunes and high school friends. She has been a tremendous blessing to my family back then and to have been able to see her again in Canada from time to time (New Life meetings and others), has just been wonderful. She was her usual sharp self (calling me by my Chinese name and also my baptised name), was always gracious and soft spoken. She has met my father on a few occasions and has always encouraged him to read the bible. Your mum is the last person that I know of, from the generation. of my parents. I am sad reflecting on her passing but I also rejoice that she is the presence of the Lord in her eternal home and she is meeting those who have gone ahead of her, like my parents and others. "May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word." 2 Thessalonians 2;16,17 We are thinking of you and praying for you and family at this time, Karen & Michael

Hi Mirella, Christiane , Helen and family, we would like to share our deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. I got to know your mum since 2011. We enjoyed speaking with each in hakka n would share jokes about how Mauritian hakka words are often mixed with creole like 'tap bisi ( take the bus)', 'sit Gato (eat cake)'. What impressed me with your mum is firstly her profound faith in Jesus and deep desire to keep learning about God. Secondly she was proud of her family n must be very happy with so many children , grand children and great grandchildren. Thirdly, she kept her body fit by exercising vigorously and regularly. She was in better shape than much younger people. Her difficult life in China reminded me of the difficult life of my parents who had to flee from China, having lost everything due to Sino Japan War. It is very good that she could meet all her children before her passing. May God comfort you all as she transitions from this life on earth to a new life where she is in the blessed presence of our Lord . Richard, Martine and family
