Obituary

Daria Holyk was born in Uhornyky, Ivano Frankivsk, Ukraine. Her parents were Wasyl and Barbara Fedoriw (Hrechanyk). She spent most of her youth in Uhornyky but the war forced her and her family into hardship and after the war they ended up in Germany. From there they were able to come to Canada in 1948. Daria devoted a lot of her time to the St. Nicholas Church where she belonged to the women's league. She also worked at the PLAST youth organization for their YUNAK magazine. Daria worked a full time job at the Ministry of the Attorney General in the Official Guardian division for close to 25 years. Daria was married to the late Stephan Holyk and had 3 children (Volodymyr, Marta and Roma) and really enjoyed being a mother and especially a grandmother to her 6 grandchildren (Andrijko, Yuri, Alya, Kvitka, Marko and Leda). She would always wait for her children and grandchildren to call and come over for dinner in which she would always go out of her way to make it special. Daria was also known for her baking skills including cream custard (kremivky) and  her famous nut tortes. Daria also leaves behind her nephews Andrij and Yurij, sons of her late brother Volodymyr, who currently reside in the United States. In her later years when she was less mobile, she took on the task of helping to care for her granddaughter Alya. Daria will always be remembered by her family and friends as a special person who was always willing to help others in need. Thank you Mama and Baba for being such a loving and generous person.
