Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Efrosina Gesz on August 18, 2021 at the age of 99. Efrosina is now reunited in heaven with her dear husband and our father, Michael Gesz. Loving mother of Maria (Roman) and Walter. Grandmother to Adriana (Keith) and Stephen (Emily). Great grandmother to Nicholas. Efrosina came to Canada in the 50’s from Ukraine via Germany and England. She was the youngest of six children. She loved to cook and bake, and on a Friday she would always bake for the weekend just in case somebody would drop in. When guests came the table was full. She also loved to garden and made sure that there were plenty of tomatoes and cucumbers growing. In her later years she would always enlist her son or son in law to dig up the garden so that she could plant. Mama had a sharp memory, was determined, kind and witty. Family and friends will be received at Cardinal Funeral Home, 366 Bathurst Street (near Dundas), on Sunday August 22, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. Panachyda at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwoods Ave. (at Queen St. W.) Toronto, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday August 23, 2021. Interment to follow at Prospect Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
