Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Hrabowych, our Mama and Baba. Irene fell asleep in the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, February 5th,2020 at the age of 95 at Sts. Peter and Paul Residence. She was born Irene Pyskir on June 20,1924 in the village of Komarno in Western Ukraine. In 1944, leaving at home her parents (Anna and Petro) and brother Hruhori, she escaped the horrors of wartime Ukraine with her sisters Sophia and Natalie and nephew Jurij. They found safety in Kitsbuhel, Austria ,then emigrated for a new life in Canada in 1949. In Toronto, Irene met Roman Hrabowych, marrying in May,1953. They lived a rich devoted life together, prioritizing family, hard work, and their Ukrainian community, living in Toronto, Barrie, Kingston,Winnipeg, and in 1984 retiring back to Toronto . Irene is survived by her loving sons, Roman (Eleanor), George(Andrea), Orest(Lila); And grandchildren Alexandra, Kristian, Daniel, Michael,Stefanie, Larysa, and Adriana. We will always miss her uplifting spirit, boundless generosity, amazing cooking and baking, and wonderful sense of humour. Our family is particularly grateful to the caregiving team over the years at Sts. Peter and Paul Residence. Vichnaya Pam’yat.
