Obituary

Jennie Kociumbas

May 24, 1930 - February 16, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jennie Kociumbas after a long and valiant battle with dementia.  She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as hard working and selfless. Predeceased by her parents Sofia and Konstantine Mykula, her brother William McCulla and her husband Joseph. Loving and proud mother to Kathie (Rob), Michael (Judy) and Chris (Lisa). Devoted grandmother to her only grandchild, Connor Morrison.

Jennie was born in St. Catharines, ON and moved at a young age to Toronto. She attended Western Technical Collegiate graduating with Honours and went on to study as a stenographer. As a youth she spent her time with Ukrainian cultural groups making lifelong relationships along the way. Most of her adult married life was devoted to her family, especially homemaking and caring for her three children and supporting her mother Sofia. Jennie also worked for many years in the law office of her brother Bill, which was also the home of her mother.

Despite her busy life she still managed to enjoy travel, bowling, curling and had an active social life with a close circle of friends. Her friendliness and outgoing nature made her well suited for work doing mall surveys for various organizations. Her love of dogs provided a background for her employment at the Canadian Kennel Club. After retirement from the CKC, Jennie spent her time travelling, reading, movie watching, gardening, socializing at the senior centre and crafting. She especially enjoyed woodworking, painting, decoupage and ceramics and will be remembered for her love of chocolate, coffee and Pepsi.

She was a strong woman and a fighter who overcame many emotional and physical obstacles in her life only to get stronger as time marched on. Jennie's last years were spent at Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home. Although she was not of Lithuanian heritage, the home welcomed her warmly and openly and she received kind and compassionate care.

To our dearest Mom: you were loved by us in life, will continue to be loved and remembered by us after death and loved by God for eternity.

Amen  ✝️ 🙏
