Obituary

Kazuko “Kuzzie” (Inouye) Shimizu passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26 at the age of 95. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Jeff (Kathy), daughter Jhana (Jason), grandchildren Gillian (Karl), Brian, Katie and Michael. She will be sadly missed by many other family members and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Tsugio “Jack”, her parents, Yoshinobu and Teru (Tsuji) Inouye, her sisters and brothers and granddaughter-in-law, Tam.

Born on September 3, 1927, Kuzzie grew up in Mission, BC. During the war Kuzzie was relocated to Manitoba with her mother and most of her siblings. She eventually landed in Toronto and married Jack in 1956 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away.

She spent her working years as a talented seamstress and a retail clerk at Simpson Sears. She was an active member of the Toronto Buddhist Church and was always giving her time, spending hours baking and cultivating her African violets for the church bazaar. She was a dedicated volunteer at Women’s College Hospital and Scott Mission. She loved to cook and bake and was happiest when surrounded by family.

Thank you to the kind and compassionate staff at Lakeshore Lodge Long-Term Care Home.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Fauna Foundation or The Scott Mission.

My condolences to Kuzzie’s family, friends, and neighbours. Kuzzie’s passing is a great loss. She was a wonderful friend and neighbour. I value my fond memories of the times we spent together – often on her porch, or in her living room or kitchen. She was a great listener and storyteller. She and my Ukrainian mother shared many of the same experiences as housekeepers and farmworkers out West. Both had personalities characterized by good common sense. Both were kind, generous, wise, and good listeners.
