Obituary

In loving memory of Maria Cizaltina Camacho

December 24, 1932 – January 29, 2022

Maria’s story started on December 24, 1932. Born to Jose Da Silva Moniz and Maria Angelina Machado in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal. Maria was a vibrant child full of life. She spent much of her early adult life in Portugal where she gave birth to her first-born Jose Manuel. With life’s circumstances (widowed), she immigrated to Canada in August 1969 with her son in tow.

Blessed twice in her life with great love, she would meet by chance Manuel Camacho early in the next year. They quickly had a whirlwind romance and married in the following year. A new life journey had now begun as Maria would give birth to Mario in the succeeding year August of 1972.  With the family’s new additional blessing, it only made sense to reinforce their family with the adoption of Joe and Liliana (predeceased), Camacho, as her own.

Maria lived for her family and friends.

She had a big spirit and loved to be loved.

A green thumb and was renowned for her cooking and baking skills.

She was a hard worker, generous, kind, smart, and sometimes a bit spicy which kept us all on our toes!

She loved a strong morning coffee, any reason to enjoy a glass of red wine with good company or to ching-ching with a spot of Porto. A lover of all animals, she regularly affirmed that animals recognized good people.

Maria’s grandchildren were her heart and joy. There’s no denying that, her bebe amor’s as she called them, were the people that she loved the most. She’d often reminded anyone who would listen that a grandma’s love was the greatest that walked the earth.

Loving wife of Manuel Camacho (predeceased), devoted mother (mother-in-law) of Jose Manuel (Rose), Joe (Lucy), Mario (Nancy), and the Dear Grandmother of Alex, Amanda, Andrew, Mathew, Chloe, Isabela, and Luke.

Through light and love, she will always be treasured and never forgotten.

The family has asked that in place of flowers donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
