Obituary

The family of Maria da Piedade Melo announces with great sorrow her passing on February 21, 2022 at the age of 75.  Piedade bravely ended her 2-year fight with metastatic cancer.

She was born on 4^th November 1946 in Alenquer, Portugal to parents Joaquim Gomes and Maria Augusta Henriques, and was the eldest of twelve.

Piedade is survived by her children; Antonia (Jose), Augusto (Isabelle), and Carla, as well as grandchildren; Silvia (Stefano), Daniel (Bianca), Jacob, Marco, Samuel, Adam, and great-grandchildren; Sofia, Sienna and Lorenzo. Antonio (husband) and several siblings and parents preceded her in death.

Piedade was a devoted grandmother and avid gardener. She enjoyed tending to her many, many flowers and plants and doting over her grandchildren, as well as her fury friends: Essie Mae, Duke, Luka, Abbey, Poncho, Bosley, Ozzy and her beloved Zoey, and not to forget her many stray cats that she fed every day, in her retirement. She enjoyed her many mini renovations and projects. The strong backbone matriarch of the family she leaves a huge hole with her passing.

Donations in memory of Maria may be made to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society (you may choose to direct your donation to Uterine Cancer Research).

We must continue to maintain physical distancing, the wearing of masks, and may not allow more than 40 guests into the funeral home at any one time. Capacity limits will vary at locations such as a church or cemetery. Once the maximum limit has been reached, we will ask any additional guests to kindly wait outside in a physically-distanced line until there is room to enter safely.
