Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Maria das Mercês Bettencourt passed away with her family by her side on the 18th day of July, 2023 at the age of 91 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Vera Lima, spouse Armando Lima, Celia Bittencourt, spouse Sebastiao Queiroz, Vilma Vieira, spouse Lazaro Torres Martins, Fatima Alves, and spouse Carlos Alves. Also her grandchildren, Adriana Lima, Robert Lima and spouse Angela Lima, Monica Massa and spouse Mike Massa, Kayla Torcato and spouse Adam Torcato, and Kevin Alves. Also her great grandchildren; Vanessa and Jessica Lima; Jonathan, Nicholas, and Mikey Massa; Sofia, Orlando and Myla Torcato; Amanda Lima and Noah Pacheco. She will also be remembered by her sisters Luzia Horta, Nizalda Mendonca, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

She was pre deceased by her loving husband of 50 years Orlando Bettencourt, her daughters Almerinda Bettencourt, Durvalina Bettencourt, her grandson Milton Pacheco, her great grandson Lucas Lima, her sisters Maria Fatima Bettencourt, her brother Manuel da Silva and her parents Joao Pereira da Silva and Rosa Isabel Mendonca.

Maria das Mercês was born on December 28th, 1931 in Graciosa, Azores where she lived until she was married and immigrated to Brasil and then to Canada with her family. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and playing cards with her friends and family. She was a practicing Roman Catholic and prayed the rosary often with her closest friends.
